Sydney Rain

Ten-thirty at night and the sky is pink with rainclouds. The streets are wet and all I can smell is rain and jasmine. How could you not love this city? How could you not write of it and adore it?

Why did nobody ever tell me to read Christina Stead? I've fallen in love.

I didn't even realise it was raining - I got stuck in tonight's Law & Order double.

At least the rain down here isn't muggy... I still <3 Brisbane.

I still get excited by rain. I'm like a child.
There isn't the same horrid humidity - but then, I was used to humidity and never ever any rain. Ugh. Definitely hell.

I wish I had a fancy apartment you could see and smell stuff from. All I can see when I open my window is alcoholics and all I can smell is the bag of prawns someone dropped on the sidewalk.

I look out my windows and see my neighbours. The other day I was making a nice cup of tea in my ever so grotty kitchen and I looked down to see the bloke next door [now how to phrase this charmigly?] taking a piss in the outdoor dunny. Nice work, mate. Next time close the door.

The rain and jasmine were as I was walking down the street...

The Man Who Loved Children?

And I love rain as well. We have a tin roof and I find it mesmerising, the only problem is I want to stay up and listen to it but it sends me to sleep:(

I also have a thunderstorm meditation CD that I listen to in summer to relax. It might sound strange but I really miss European weather, I've been to Europe three times for a total period of just under three years, and I truly miss the romantic winters.

It's 'For Love Alone' - I thought it seemed like an easy entree into her work [yeah, I was judging by title]. Brilliant. Loving it. Loving the Sydney in it, the descriptions of THE university, the old quay, the trams the ferries - all of it, the social mores, the politics, the vocabulary.
Am I gushing? lol

if you reckon it's that good then I definitely know what I am buying next time I go to the bookstore... Christine Stead's writing enables you to literally taste, smell and see the words vividly in your mind's eye... I am definitely going to have to read her again because it's been ages. So thanks for the reminder :-)

Beautiful, yes, but what in hell happened to winter?
