of my discontent

Jasmine - not just buds but flowers.
Is it really over so soon, winter?

I agree, (even if I'm not sure whether you agree.) We need more winter. MORE!

Word verification: whytd. Why, indeed?

I bet this will come as a complete surprise, given my screen name, but I love winter. The season obviously, not me. I mean, I'm all well and good too, but that's not the point here. The point is...damn, what were we talking about? Oh yeah, winter. I agree, let's have more of that!

P.S. Do you ever get snow where you live?

Tim, I quite like winter-the-season but Sydney is so ill prepared for it. It does get quite cold but there isn't proper heating and everything is all outdoorsy and not very sheltered and half the people pretend like it's a city of eternal summer even as they shiver and turn blue in their flimsy clothes. I would prefer if the season were longer but, things being as they are, I'm sometimes relieved when it's over. I have been craving sun lately, hot[ish] Sydney summer sun.

Winter, I've never even seen real snow at a snow capped mountain distance. I grew up in the tropics and, though much farther south, Sydney is of temperate climate. You'd probably find our winters rather warm.
Winter rocks, as does Winter ;)

I know, it's hilarious! What gets me though is the people who stick to their 'winter-bad, summer-good' mantra no matter what. Like Ruskin said, 'Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces up, snow is exhilarating; there is no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather.'

Stupidities of winter wear:
- People who don't/won't wear enclosed shoes - please don't bitch about the cold, morons...
- Those gaps where the flesh shows at waists and at ankles. Really, you wonder why wou might be a bit cold as the wind whistles around you..?
- Thongs - oh ffs it's winter, just don't.

I genuinely like seasons. Possibly more the idea of seasons than the actuality - not having experienced dramatic seasonal change. It's very exciting, very earthly even in the middle of cities.

- Enclosed shoes/thongs: you know, if they were just able to infringe the sock/sandal ban they wouldn't have to worry about the cold. What's the ruling from on high about the combination of socks and thongs?

- Those bits of skin at waist and ankles. Could we call them 'wankles'? I do believe we could!

Socks and thongs are terribly uncomfortable. Only for emergencies around the house, I believe.
