It's a little strange, given C S's noted proclivities for beer, that it doesn't feature at all in the Narnia books. It's all mead and wine and, yes, bear meat. And the occasional cup of tea.
I think he rather made a point of his drinking - 'I'm a Christian, but I can sink an ale with the lads all right!' Then again, it has to be said that his family had a talent for alcohol (his brother was an alcoholic).
You're probably right about him finding beer too prosaic for books. He tended to use whatever food/drink seems poetically appropriate for his books. In his sf 'Out of the Silent Planet' trilogy - which has even more bizarre Christian references in it than the Chronicles - the characters gallivant about the universe drinking things like heavenly nectar and eating things like Edenic fruit.
In the Chronicles, I'm not sure if he has the Calormenes drink coffee. But I think the first thing Mr Tumnus does when he gets Lucy home is give her a cup of tea?
That's not what I always suspected Mr Tumnus giving Lucy. - er, yes but aside from my filthy mind it probably was tea or possibly chocolate. And I think sardines on toast - the English truly are revolting eaters.
I'm very bad at picking up Christian references unless they're terribly obvious. Something lacking in my education, I believe.
It was doped tea. Tumnus had originally been told by the White Witch to bring the children to her, or something like that, but Tumnus evidently felt guilty about the whole thing because though he did dope the tea, causing Lucy to fall asleep, he didn't go to the Witch.

Well, I must say that I prefer 'beer meet' or just any old beer [certain exceptions noted].
It is in the Chronicles, I think Prince Caspian. They also mutilate apples.
