House guests and fish get three days or Jesus fucking Christ my eyes hurt!

What's with contacts after twelve measly hours?

because girls are cuter in glasses.

I'm forced to go with Dan on this one, I must say.

So, there's some sort of conspiracy by contact lens manufacturers that after a set time one's eyes ache and one needs to revert to one's specs all because girls are somehow cuter in glasses? You know what? I could buy that.

Please explain to me what's so cute [gah!] about girls in glasses.

The eyes are the doorway to the soul, and it's interesting to see how women frame them. Says a lot. Also, maybe it's a little bit of a fetish. Yeah, I said it.

Forgive Dan his poor choice of words, he knows not what he says.

Well, first of all, I have glasses. I have discovered that, in the main, those people who have worn glasses for a long time probably wore them through their youth, and as such suffered at least some amount of emotional torment from their peers as a result. This has probably 'hardened them the fuck up' (to coin a phrase) to some extent, and they are probably infinitesimally more sympathetic to my emotional state as I would probably be to theirs, in some unconscious way. At least, this is my theory. It's a good theory and if anybody criticises it they will be found in a ditch.

And they just are, is the short answer. I mean, glasses are not the be-all-and-end-all of physical attraction. I think it can lend definition to a face, and maybe even a bit of colour, which is nice. 'Cute' is probably not the right word, lending overtones of girlish frolickry as it does, but it'll do until the right word comes along.

To quote Tali White of The Guild League, 'if eyes are windows on the soul, then mine are locked and boarded.'

All us blindies in together, Martin? You're quite right though, I have been wearing glasses forever but unlike you two I don't find them attractive. Possibly because I loathe them on myself and cannot see the appeal for or on others.

My roommate has the same problem. The only time I have any issue with my contacts is when I'm really, really tired. I mean, I've gone 30 hours awake with them in and not had any problems.

Have you tried some kind of drops?

My choice of words was exactly what I wanted to say, and thus not a "poor choice of words". I don't share your viewpoint on glasses because I have not worn them my entire life. I find them attractive because of the reasons stated above. I don't need to wax poetic about it. Being blunt has it's own charm and sensibilities.

The wonders of simultaneous posting. Initially, I was referring to the use of the word 'cute' and Nails' initial response (quote unquote, 'gah'), in an attempt at defusing a negative that wasn't there. Not the doorway to the soul/fetishistic bit. That came later, and had its own reply.

Being blunt may be charming, but taking things a mite too seriously for their own good is daft. Speaking of which, why am I even explaining this? Friggin' non-lifetime-members of the spectacles club.

12 hours of contacts = really, really dry eyes = pain when removing them.

I love my contacts though. I want to marry them.

Not really.

Winter, not the being the hugest fan of contacts I don't wear them very often...and then wear them for to long and my eyes get all itchy and sore and teribly tired. Quite my own fault. Drops help when I have some.

Combative little thing ain't ya, Dan?

And Martin...

Mish, why not? They're as plastic and disposable as any other marriage. ;)

Combative? A bit, sometimes. I don't like it when someone tries to correct me for a personal feeling, or when someone tries to "pretty up" something to make it more palpable. It happens a lot in America, and it's one of the main reasons I want to leave.

I have both contacts and glasses.

I usually wear glasses out of pure laziness. I wake up with just enough time to roll out of bed and eat breakfast before heading to work, and by the time I get home, what's the point?

Do you ever do that thing where you go to push your glasses up your nose, then realize you are wearing contacts? I do that all the time.
